Bengaluru: The police has submitted a detailed 3,991-page charge sheet against all 17 accused including actor Darshan in the Renuka Swamy murder case.
Actor Darshan had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a ban on the media from publishing the report contained in the charge sheet. The court upheld it and directed the media not to broadcast any information about the charge sheet. The ban will remain in place till further hearing.
The case is pending before the Magistrate’s Court. The high court noted that despite a lower court on August 27 staying the case filed by Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi, the media continued to share confidential information.
Accepting the petitioner’s contention, the court ordered the media, identified as respondents 3 to 40, to refrain from publishing any details from the charge sheet till further hearing.
While announcing its decision, the High Court referred to the 2010 Supreme Court judgment “Siddhartha Vashisht @ Manu Sharma vs State (NCT of Delhi)” and Clause 5 of the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995. It also referred to an earlier judgment of the Conciliation Bench of the Karnataka High Court.
The court also directed the central government to inform media organizations about this judgment.
