Bengaluru : The high court has expressed concern that innocent people are being cheated of crores of rupees by believing that they will give them a medical degree seat.

A petition filed by MC Virupakshappa, a resident of Pillanna Garden, was heard on Monday before the bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against him at the VV Pura police station on the charge of cheating a student of Rs.2.2cr

During the hearing, the bench expressed serious concern that the brokers were deceiving people by believing that they would give them any excuse and said that it is not possible to quash the FIR against the petitioner. Hence the petitioner’s counsel withdrew the petition.

On November 21, 2023, an FIR was registered in the VV Pura police station against Manjappa and six persons including the petitioner Virupakshappa in connection with the allegation of defrauding a city student Mohit Reddy and his father

Manjappa, a broker, is the first accused in the case, while Virupaksha is the second accused. Due to this, Virupakshappa filed an application in the High Court seeking cancellation of the FIR against him.

During the hearing, the government lawyer objected to the application and the applicant requested to quash the FIR. He requested that the allegation against the petitioner be serious and his petition should not be granted.

The justices, who heard the petition, pointedly directed the counsel for the petitioner to plead with the broker to quash the FIR.

Counsel for the petitioner replied that the petitioner is the second accused in the case. If the facts of the case are read, the petitioner is only accused of introducing the complainant to the accused in the first place. Samajaishi tried to give that his role was limited to that.

Justices who disagree with this argument, you are also accused. You cheated innocent people by getting one and a half to two crores by believing that they would give them medical degree seats. Why did you introduce the seat aspirants to the broker? He lashed out that the business of providing medical seats through brokers has become very cruel in today’s society.
