Bengaluru: Cybercrime cases are increasing recently, a woman in Bengaluru has been cheated online of Rs 14 lakh. Soon after the loss, they allegedly duped a 52-year-old software engineer from the city of Rs 2.24 crore by pretending to be officials of the Delhi Customs and Narcotics Control Bureau.

Kumaraswamy Sivakumar, a techie from Jakkur, was cheated in the same way as a 29-year-old woman lawyer from Bengaluru was cheated of Rs 14.57 lakh.

Between March 18 and March 27, fraudsters called Kumaraswamy, a software engineer, in the guise of customs officials, saying, ‘Your air parcel has been seized at Delhi customs. He lied that it contains fake passport, bank ATM cards, MDMA drugs in your name.

Later, the matter came to the knowledge of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau. So they said that a complaint should be filed. The fraudster gave an instruction to download the Skype app to file a complaint, and the techie who downloaded the Skype app believed it and did as the accused told him to.

Finally, he asked for money to close the case. Police said that some account numbers have also been given.

Shivakumar told the police that he paid Rs 2.24 crore in eight installments through RTGS and IMPS in stages to the fraudsters.

Realizing that he had been duped, Shivakumar lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru North East Cyber ​​Crime Police Station on April 5. The police have registered a case against the unknown fraudsters and are continuing the investigation.

According to police sources, since the beginning of the month, around 25 people have fallen victim to this type of fraud under the North-East Cyber ​​Crime Police Station and have lost Rs 4r crore.
