Mangalore: The Lokayukta has asked Mangalore City Police Commissioner N. Sasikumar to report on the corruption allegations heard against Him and two other police officers.
Mohammad Kabir, a resident of Ullala, complained to the Lokayukta in December 2022. In his complaint, Kabir had accused Ullala Police Inspector Sandeep GS and PSI Pradeep of obtaining illegal assets by extorting bribes from ganja and sand mafia and hotel owners.
Also, mentioned corruption has increased after Shashi Kumar took charge as the Mangalore Police Commissioner.
Kabir said that all the complaints were submitted to the Chief Secretary, DGP, Lokayukta, ACB, ADGP and Dakshina Kannada District Collector through email, But no action was taken. Instead of taking action, he started receiving threatening calls. He also complained that the police repeatedly interrogated him.
The Lokayukta said it would be appropriate to investigate the case of abuse of power and corruption against the accused police officers under Section 9 of the Lokayukta Act.
Further, the Lokayukta states that ‘before taking up any investigation in the matter, a report has been sought from the respondent Commissioner of Police by February 15, 2023 regarding the complaint.
Commissioner of Police N. Sasikumar said in a release that he will investigate the complaint and submit a report. I have asked the South ACP for the investigation report and they said it will be submitted.
I have not received any notice for questioning N Sasikumar about the complaint filed against him in the Lokayukta. I have been asked to test as a unit officer. Other things are out of my scope. “If there is any charge against me, the authorities will inquire,” he said.
