BENGALURU: As many tech companies, including tech giant Microsoft, continue to lay off employees, Google’s parent company Alphabet announced on Friday that it will cut 12,000 jobs.

On January 18, Microsoft announced that it would cut 10,000 jobs. After this, now Google’s Alphabet is going to lay off 12000 employees.

In an email to employees, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “We’ve seen periods of dramatic growth over the past two years. This is an important time to correct that growth. To sharpen our focus and reshape our cost businesses and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities.”

“I deeply regret the company’s decision. The fact that these changes will affect the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me,” Pichai said.

The company will pay wages to the employees during the full notification period (minimum 60 days). Google CEO Sundar Pichai said Google offers a severance package starting at 16 weeks of salary and two weeks for each additional year at Google, and at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting.
