Karnataka: A POCSO case has been registered against Dr. Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru who is the present pontiff of the Math, and the victim, two minor girls, filed a statement in front of Chitradurga’s First Additional District Hospital and Sessions on Tuesday.
The two were taken to the court from the Government Bal Mandir at 2.30 pm under tight security along with the office-bearers of the Child Welfare Committee and fellow members. A large number of people had gathered in the court and the police resorted to light lathis to disperse the crowd.
In the meantime, MLA G.H. Tippareddy spoke to the reporters said that he was hurt by this development and Swamiji told him that he would cooperate with the investigation. He alleged that there was a big conspiracy against Swamiji.
The victims and the priest are from my constituency and I would like to meet the girls if allowed by law,” said Tippareddy. In the wake of Monday’s incident, the police have deployed extra security as the priest has not been found for some time. Security has been beefed up at the Government Home for Girls.
Meanwhile, the district police on Tuesday booked the accused under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (Act) as one of the victims belonged to the SC community.
