Shimoga: A POCSO court here sentenced a 65-year-old man to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl. Accused Nagappa paid Rs. 60,000 fine was imposed.
On September 13, 2020, the accused Nagappa sexually harassed a girl in a village of Shimoga taluk. When the minor girl went to the farm, she was sexually assaulted there. In this connection, women police had registered a case against Nagappa. Mahila Thane Inspector Abhay Prakash Somanal conducted the inquiry and registered a Charge sheet against Nagappa.
Public Prosecutor Hari Prasad argued for the prosecution. Additional District and Sessions Court Judge JS Mohan Nagappa held him guilty under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012 and announced the verdict on Saturday.
In case the accused fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo simple imprisonment for an additional six months.
