Chandigarh: A horrific incident has been reported in Haryana where a senior police officer was killed by a truck during an operation to capture a mining mafia team.

DSP rank officer Surendra Singh Bishnoi reached the spot with a police team around 11 am today after receiving information about illegal stone mining in Pachagaon near Aravalli mountain range.

On seeing the police personnel, those involved in illegal mining started fleeing from the spot. Senior officer Surendra Singh Bishnoi stood on the road and directed the stone-laden vehicles to stop. But the driver of the truck ran over him and the police officer died on the spot. Two other policemen jumped aside and narrowly escaped. Later the accused fled from the area.

After the shocking incident, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij will not spare the mining mafia. They said that we will take strict action and will not spare anyone.

Despite an earlier Supreme Court ban order in 2009, mining continues unabated in several places in the Aravalli region.

A group of citizens named Aravali Bachao Citizens Movement approached the National Green Tribunal earlier this year. He alleged that illegal mining was going on extensively in at least 16 places in the region.
