Bengaluru: Amid continuous rains, dengue epidemic has started again in the state and it is known that 530 cases have been reported across the state.
This month, apart from 503 cases under BBMP, 530 dengue cases have been reported in Karnataka, according to the statistics provided by the state health department.
According to state health department and BBMP sources, the current year’s number has increased compared to last year’s 341 cases under BBMP’s jurisdiction in July. However, it is said that no death has occurred due to dengue in the state this year.
Due to incessant rains across the state, dengue cases are on the rise and the government has intensified surveillance and larval control measures. BBMP Special Commissioner (Health) Dr. Trilok Chandra said that house to house survey is being done to prevent water stagnation.
Dr. Basavaraja , Consultant-Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospital, Malleswaram, said, “In the OPD, we are seeing 5 to 8 suspected dengue cases per day and three to five patients require hospitalization and one to two need ICU admission.
Similarly, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Internal Medical Consultant of Narayan Health City said, ‘We are seeing 25-30 suspected dengue cases every day, out of which five to six are severe cases and require hospitalization. Dr. Vinay D, Consultant of Infectious Diseases, Apollo Hospital, Itta Bannerghatta Road, said that since last month, 50 cases of dengue have been treated in our unit alone. The number of possible dengue cases is three to four times more than the confirmed cases, he said.
Further, ‘most people show symptoms like fever, headache, fatigue, eye pain, usually pain behind the eyes, lack of appetite. Patients and physicians should be alert for warning signs, including abdominal pain, vomiting, nonpruritic rash, and decreased platelet count. He said these could indicate complications of dengue.
Doctors said that children and middle-aged people aged 20 to 50 years are exposed to mosquito bites in schools and workplaces respectively.
