New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to raise the marriage age limit for women from 18 to 21 years.

The marriage age of young girls is fixed at 18 years. It will be reconsidered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in his 2020 Independence Day speech that a committee would be formed for this purpose.

After one and a half years, the Central Cabinet has put forward its implementation. The age limit of motherhood, of course, rises as the child-infant mortality rate in the country is reduced, nutritional deficiencies are increased and women’s marriage age limits are increased.

The Central Government has created a task force to look into the issue and take a look at some of the problems. On the recommendation of this Task Force, the proposal was approved by the Central Cabinet.
