NEW DELHI: Petrol prices have plunged in the country after the Congress-ruled Punjab cut local sales tax or VAT.
After the central government reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per liter and diesel by Rs 10, 25 states and Union Territories have also given relief to people by reducing VAT.
As a result of the combined excise duty and VAT reduction, petrol prices in Punjab have been reduced by Rs 16.02 per liter and diesel by Rs 19.61 per liter.
Punjab is set to slash Rs 16.02 per liter on petrol in the upcoming assembly elections. Union Territory of Ladakh Rs 13.43 a liter Followed by Karnataka (Rs 13.35).
