Karnataka :The Legal Services Institutions in the country led by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in the centre and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) in the State of Karnataka have been performing instrumental role in bringing justice to the door step of citizens by creating legal awareness amongst the common citizens.
Section 4 (k) of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 mandate National Legal Services Authority to develop in consultation with Bar Council of India programme for clinical education and to promote the guidelines and supervision of establishment of Legal Services Clinics in Universities, Law Colleges and other Institutions. Accordingly with a view to promote better collaboration with Law Colleges in the State of Karnataka, KSLSA prepared and circulated a detailed SOP of Legal Services Clinics in all Law Colleges. As per the said SOP, the law colleges are required to establish Legal Services Clinics both in and off the College campus.
On 07-10-2021 Legal Services Clinic set up in the premises of School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Sri Justice Aravind Kumar, Judge, High Court of Karnataka and Executive Chairman, KSLSA. After inaugurating the Legal Services Clinics, his Lordship explained the historical background of Legal Services Clinic in law Colleges and reminded the Authorities regarding the mandate to set up Legal Services Clinics. His Lordship called upon the student community to assist Legal Services Institutions in creating Legal Awareness through Legal Aid Camps. They are also advised to take up the initiative of adoption of villages and litigation free villages. Dr. Fr. Abraham Vettiyankal Mani, Vice Chancellor of Christ (Deemed to be University) presided over the function. Sri H. Shashidhara Shetty, Member Secretary, KSLSA & Dr. Fr. Benny Thomas, Director, School of Law Christ (Deemed to be University) were the guests of honour.
