Bengaluru: The temperature is increasing day by day in the state. It is reported that two elephants have died due to lack of water in Hot Summer where not only humans but also wild animals have been affected by the sun.

The forest department staff has informed that the elephant that died in Yalavanath forest is about 25 years old and the elephant that died in Bettahalli beet forest is 14 years old.

A 15-year-old boy who died in Bettahalli beat of Kanakapura sector of Ramanagara came to a farm three days ago and collapsed due to the scorching heat. The cause of the incident was that the elephant had eaten too much mango and was without water to drink. On the other hand, the forest department sources said that the elephant died due to lack of water.

The preliminary report said that the elephant died due to herpes virus in Yalavanath forest. Officials have informed that the animals infected with this virus will be thirsty, unable to walk and die without getting water.

Prabhakar Priyadarshi, Conservator of Forests (DCF) of Bannerghatta National Park said that the water bodies in the Bannerghatta National Parks have dried up to 50% and only 50% water is left.

Female elephant dies in Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary

A 25-year-old female elephant died in the Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary on Monday. Veterinary teams found the dead body of the elephant floating in the Kaveri river.

The postmortem revealed that the elephant tried to cross the river, but due to low water level and slippery stones, it slipped and fell and died.

A senior forest official said that this year is a stressful year for animals. Some natural water bodies in the forests are polluted, animals are consuming this water. He said that it is a matter of concern today.

Elephants usually walk up to 25 km in search of water. However, it is difficult for small animals like deer, he said that now a report is being prepared on the drought of each section and it will be sent to the ministry for further action.

Chief Wildlife Warden Subhash Malkhade said the deaths of the three elephants occurred due to different causes.
