Bengaluru : Two persons were arrested for digging a huge pit for septic tank on Vajrahalli 80 feet road footpath.
A video of digging a hole in the footpath went viral on social media yesterday. Taking this seriously, the BBMP officials urged the Talaghattapur police to take action.
On the insistence of the BBMP officials, the patrolling Hoysala police and traffic police reached the spot and stopped the work. Meanwhile, the site engineer Sudhir Bhat and mason Kirti Raj were arrested.
A case has been registered against both of them under IPC Section 283 (causing obstruction to traffic).
Talaghattapur traffic station assistant sub-inspector Venkatesh Naik said that both were brought to the station and instructed to close the dug hole.
Revanna, the owner of the building, has been instructed to come to the police station. However, another officer said that since he is out of town, he will come to the station soon.
I was not aware of the procedures for obtaining permission to dig a hole. There are no sanitary connections in this area. Most of the houses and commercial complexes are discharging sewage water into septic tanks. So we also decided to build a septic tank. Sudhir Bhatt said that owner Revanna also had information about this.
Abdul Aleem of Kanakapura Road Change Makers said, “We are using social media to put pressure on the authorities to stop such unreasonable activities. The IPC sections in this regard are very weak. They said that they have requested the BDA to file a complaint.
