BENGALURU : The Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Bengaluru Airport recovered 1.24 kg of cocaine worth Rs 13.65 crore from a passenger who landed from Ethiopia.
A case has been registered against the 53-year-old passenger under the Prevention of Consumption of Narcotic Drugs and Stimulants (NDPS) Act. The arrested person was produced before the Magistrate.
Customs sources said that Ghanaian Bah Ampadu Kwadwo arrived at Kempegowda International Airport on September 19 via Ethiopian Airlines (ET 690).
When Kwadwo was stopped, it was found that he was trying to smuggle drugs by concealing them. So we took Kwadwo to the hospital and within two days we removed all the drugs,” the officials said.
Sources added that further investigations are underway and it is not yet clear whether he is a regular smuggler or this is his first attempt.
