Bengaluru Floods: High Court directs BBMP to set up Resident Grievance Division in every ward

Bengaluru : Bengaluru has been experiencing heavy rains for the past couple of weeks. Roads and houses are flooded in many places and people are suffering. Thus, the Karnataka High Court has instructed the BBMP to set up a grievance department in every ward to listen to the grievances of the residents.

The order issued on Wednesday made it mandatory to set up a unit in each ward of Bengaluru. Each division has an engineer who listens to the public’s grievances.

The court said that the ward engineer of each ward will be notified to deal with the grievances of the residents. The court directed the BBMP to set up a team of engineers in each ward to listen to residents’ grievances and maintain systematic water flow.

It has directed the civic body to expedite the proposal and get approval from the state government at the earliest. A division bench of the court headed by Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe is hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on poor maintenance of roads by the BBMP.

During the hearing, the BBMP lawyer informed the court about the measures taken to prevent flooding in the city. The court was told that sluice gates will be installed in all the lakes of Bangalore. As an immediate measure, pumps are being used to release water from waterlogged areas, BBMP informed.
