Bengaluru: A father and son have been arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly murdering a 51-year-old man for allegedly stealing from their shop. The accused have been identified as Karunakaran and his son Srinivas. Deceased Amarnath hailed from Bihar, lived in Maruti Nagar, Yelahanka and was a mason by profession.
Karunakaran was running a fabrication and engineering workshop in Dwarakanagar, Bengaluru, police said. Ironware was stolen from the store twice recently. When examining the CCTV, it was found that the same person had committed the theft on two occasions. They planned to catch him and monitored the CCTV footage.
Amarnath tried to steal again around 3 am on Saturday morning. Karunakaran and his son, who were next to the shop, rushed in with another worker and caught him. Instead of handing him over to the police, the trio brutally assaulted Amarnath with iron rods. Later, he was admitted to the hospital, where he died, police said.
When the father and son were interrogated, they confessed to assaulting Amarnath and causing his death. Police said two people have been arrested for the murder while efforts are on to nab the absconding laborer.
